ABOUT ME
Michael Kinser is an ordained minister and a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 30 years of dedicated experience supporting individuals, couples, families, teens, and children. He brings a compassionate approach to addressing complex issues such as communication breakdowns, conflict resolution, divorce, remarriage, blended families, and intricate family dynamics.
Beyond therapy, Michael is a passionate advocate for families of individuals with special needs. Since 1994, when his eldest daughter was born with a rare genetic disorder, he has been deeply involved in navigating the challenges of disabilities, learning differences, behavioral concerns, and special education services, including 504 plans. His firsthand experience fuels his commitment to empowering families as they face obstacles within the home, school system, and broader community.
EXPERIENCE
Michael has been dedicated to supporting individuals, couples, and families since 1991—initially as a full-time pastor and, since 2007, as a licensed professional therapist. He holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling from St. Edward’s University, Austin, Texas (2007), a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas (1997), and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin (1990). Michael was licensed to the Gospel Ministry in 1991 and ordained in 1993 by Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.
As a Special Needs Advocate, Michael brings passion and expertise to his work with students and families. He offers private consultations, attends ARD/IEP and 504 meetings, represents clients in mediations, files complaints, requests due process hearings, and appeals disciplinary referrals for students who have been unfairly treated by the school system.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Michael works with individuals, couples, and families to help them find the answers they need to overcome the challenges they face. Let’s start with the outcome: most clients notice positive, meaningful change within 4 to 8 sessions. Many develop the tools and reach their goals within 3 to 4 months.
Your time together will be focused on solutions that create a better future. Michael wants to hear your story, understand how you arrived at your current situation, and use his training and experience to help you gain clarity and direction moving forward.
Often, the process begins with one person—a spouse or parent—seeking help to improve their marriage or family dynamic. Michael takes the time to understand the unique dynamics of your situation and applies proven therapeutic methods to equip your family with practical tools for lasting growth.

Michael is an awesome counselor, idk where I would be without him. He doesn’t just tell you he shows you. There are some therapist that want to tell you what’s wrong and how to heal. He shows you just in the right way that’s perfect for you and your journey. He always has the right message, video to share or scripture to read. Sometimes he just lets me vent to get it all out so that I can just feel better. He has great listening and communication skills to help you. His staff is great as well, she works and arranges my payments that help me pay and still get great service. Never any pressure on payments and communicates perfectly on dates available.
